Supplies (this is where I always forget to take the picture)...
- ribbons of your choice-I used 5/8in grosgrain ribbon. I found the Valentine's theme ribbon at Michael's and bought the others at Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off...love that!
- hot glue
- heart wreath form...I used a wire one and covered the back of it with felt so that the ribbon would stick. If you could find something that was flat with a better gluing surface I think it would be easier.
I cut the ribbon into little strips, rolled them, and hot glued them together. I'm not sure how long I cut the pieces, probably about 2 1/2 or 3in.
Then just start gluing them all around the wreath how you want! Again, I had trouble getting it to stick to the wire alone so I added some felt to the back (sorry I didn't take a picture).
And just keep going until it's all covered and you don't have any holes! Add a little ribbon on the back and hang in the perfect spot (which I haven't found yet).
Here's a close up of the ribbons I used:Just be careful not to drop it. :(
I'm not sure what I am going to do to get it back together. I tried hot glue but the foam just soaks it all in. I'll try again later or maybe try out my Gorilla Glue for the first time. And if that doesn't work I guess I'll buy a new form. The circle cutting was the most tedious part of this project so it wouldn't be too hard to re-do it.
Happy Heart Making!
i love this dara!!
ReplyDeleteI love that heart ribbon wreath! I want one :)
ReplyDeleteAHHH! I can't believe you dropped it! It looks so good! I hope you can find a way to get it back together :)
ReplyDeleteWhat about toothpicks through both sides at the breaks? Just snip off any part that sticks out? Worth a try? Deborah

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I'm in the middle of making one and it looks great so far. I found a straw heart wreath on clearance at Michaels. I wrapped it with red, clearance Christmas ribbon that was on sale for $0.39 a roll. I couldn't find good Valentine's Day ribbon there, but I found some at Target in the dollar section! It's going to take 8 or 9 rolls, but it will be worth it! Thanks again. I just found your blog and love it. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun idea! come on over and link up to MMM :)
ReplyDeleteI have an idea how to fix it. Buy really long pins to stick through both parts of the styrofoam........and pin it on an angle. Then clear tape around the pins to add a bit of security. THen finally glue gun the lace back together or you can even sew the lace back together with matching thread.
ReplyDeleteThey make a special glue for styrofoam that you can buy at Michaels too if nothing else works.
ReplyDeleteAbout how many rolls of ribbon did it take to make one wreath?
ReplyDeleteStyrofoam glue works. I've broken a foam wreath myself. You can buy it at Michael's, I think. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHold it together with tooth picks stuck in each end
ReplyDeleteTry the u shaped floral pins
ReplyDeleteHow did you attach your ribbon to the back of the wreath? I have been looking for ages to try to get some advice on the best way to lay the ribbon and if i should glue it or what and cant find any suggestions! Would love some insight and any tips you have on attaching the hanger to the wreath itself, not the hanger on the door/window/mirror. Hope my question is clear. Beautiful wreaths!
ReplyDeleteThere is an idea in that oops.. how about turning it into someting about being broken hearted if you won't be my Valentine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteGorilla glue expands, so i wouldnt mess with it. just take some toothpicks, insert of it into bottom half of wreath, then put a little glue. let sit about 3 mins to let glue set a bit. then take top half and insert carefully, so u dont break it, to the toothpicks and push down lightly. then let glue dry completely. hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteInsert half of it into bottom half of wreath***
ReplyDeleteI used Tacky glue to fix a foam Christmas wreath I made and it held beautifully!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea!! Thanks for sharing! My soon to be 4 yr old daughter and I will be making this for Grandma! I think it'll be a great keepsake and decoration piece for her!
